The talent behind the Coaching Practice of V. James is Marilyn Carpenter. But behind V. James Coaching Consortium is a rich community of coaches, teachers and thought leaders that Marilyn has the privilege to be with to expand the capacity for reaching and meeting the needs of those seeking a more prosperous life through Coaching.
Why the Name, V. James?
Virginia was her mother’s name. James was her father’s name – there it is – V. James.
Marilyn grew up as the 8th of 9 children in an Irish Catholic family. Just like you, Marilyn’s early beginnings shaped so much of whom she is today that she maintains the symmetry of her heritage with what is today to keep her grounded in the role of Coach.
The V. James icon - the Celtic knot - is a beacon, drawing from old traditions of Ireland. The strongest links are where the knots actually connect and mysteriously, there is no beginning and no end. We draw strength from others when we connect. The Celtic knot offers a glimpse at the similar intricacies of our connections with all others. It is a reminder that we are all on the same path and that each one of us have the power as spiritual beings to impact others in this world in amazing ways with our unique talents and gifts.

Overcome External Circumstances
What do we know? We know that as workers, we often compete against other individuals for work on a global level, not just a local level. If your job can be done cheaper, faster and in many cases better, by workers in developing countries with a huge surplus of labor, you are not in a solid position to overcome this external force.
We also know that we are in the midst of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, which has added to the rolls of the unemployed by millions of workers—blue and white collar alike.
We know that millions of jobs have been lost over a very short period of time. Many of yesterday’s jobs, from construction to Wall Street, won’t be coming back. This is going to require massive reinvention efforts to get workers into new occupations.
What else do we know? In addition to these massive shifts in globalization taking place, Americans are also facing the most significant workforce shifts in our nation’s history with the exit of the Baby Boom Generation into retirement and the stampede of Millennials (those born between 1980 and 2000) into the work place.
